Curriculum
Learning at our school is engaging and fun so that children really enjoy their learning. Children are encouraged to take an active part in all lessons so that they are enlivened and enthused to push themselves to their highest potential.
Children learn in a warm, safe and caring environment, where praise and encouragement are used by teachers and children alike to develop every child's self-esteem and self-confidence as an incredible learner. In lessons children are fully aware of what they are learning and why.
Our curriculum promotes:
- Inclusion and Diversity: Celebrating a wide range of cultures, perspectives and experiences, ensuring that every child feels valued and respected. Pupils learn to appreciate the richness of human creativity and understand their role as global citizens.
- Empowered Learners: Encouraging independent, self-directed learners who are confident in solving problems, making informed decisions and adapting to new situations. Our approach develops critical thinking and inquiry, helping pupils to 'know more, do more and remember more.'
- Cultural Capital: Providing a rich breadth of knowledge and experiences that expand our pupils' horizons and equip them with the skills they need to succeed in life. This includes a strong emphasis on reading, oracy, creativity and innovation.
- Personal Development: We emphasise the development of positive personal traits such as integrity, empathy, resourcefulness and self-regulation, guiding our pupils to reflect wisely, behave with integrity and cooperate consistently with others.
Through our ‘Ankermoor’ Curriculum, we aspire to create an inclusive, supportive and ambitious environment where every child is empowered to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background or starting point. By fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging a growth mindset, we prepare our pupils to thrive both academically and personally, contributing positively to their community and society.
Threaded through our curriculum are the threads (below), children will be able to make explicit connections and links between the different subjects/experiences encountered. This coherent curriculum enables specific knowledge within a subject to be relatable to other subjects, creating important links.
At Ankermoor Primary Academy, our curriculum is designed to inspire a love of learning and a deep sense of curiosity in all our pupils. We plan opportunities for our learners to solve problems, lead, explore and create in order to maximise their potential.
By the end of Year 6 our Curriculum Intent is for all children to leave our school and continue with their journey of learning with these skills:
